Gastronomy in Ghana: Thai Island Restaurant

Afrikiko Leisure Centre - adjacent to the French Embassy, just off Liberation Road is proving to be a gem of a place for good places to eat. Cafe Dez Amis is in the same compound and the latest addition is a restaurant with authentic Thai food ; Thai Island restaurant.
The decor is dark with interesting-looking lamps inserted in bamboo trunks giving a soft glow. A fascinating feature in the decor was the light feature, with a ceiling with visible high rafters with large prints on the walls and dark wood furniture.

We were a tad overwhelmed by the very extensive menu with everything from starters, salads and soups to meat dishes from chicken through to crab.
Where do I start? My friend and I were bowled over by the starters -  we ordered marinated chicken thigh wrapped in organic pandanus leaves and herbs, which was served with a ginger and sesame sauce. Piping hot, with just the right amount of spiciness and a tanginess in the sauce.
The mains were even more of a pleasure; a lamb curry of dried spices in coconut milk with sweet potatoes, roasted peanuts and cashews and another dish of stir fried duck with garlic, fresh chilli and basil. Both meats were both tender and tasty.
The stir fried rice noodles with prawns which was  meant to be a side dish was a meal in itself. We talked, laughed, ate and completely forgot it was just a Friday lunch date - two hours later, belts loosened and completely sated we reluctantly left. Great service and fantastic authentic Thai food in a small and intimate venue. Thai Island is a great and discrete lunch venue, which should prove even better for dinners - the ambience just calls for those long intimate dinners.
