Gastronomy in Ghana: Cafe dez Amis

Some of the best croissants in Accra can be had here. On a good day you will definitely get light, flaky on the outside and soft on the inside, golden croissants...
on others you may not be as fortunate but there is plenty to choose from on their very extensive menu with the choice varying from pastries and light breakfasts to salads, hamburgers, some Ghanaian dishes, continental choices and even snack platters. The best time to go I find is on Saturday mornings when Independence Avenue is not as busy as it gets during the week, but it is equally as good during the week for their breakfast and light lunches. If timed well you can get everything freshly made out of the oven, from their croissants, chicken and mushroom pies and a variety of pastries. There is seating out in the garden or in their air-conditioned interior. The service is always friendly, just be patient as it takes a while. Their biggest draw for now is the location, easily accessible, no matter which side of town you are coming from. The interior is bright and decorated with African masks and artifacts on the walls, and a few sculptures by Nana Anoff. They offer a free wi-fi service to their customers and their breakfasts are served all day.

There is also a cocktail bar as on the outside and garden chairs under the gazebos where there is live music played on Friday nights.

  1. This cafe has saved my life on many occasions....When I need a place to have a quick meeting, it's always so well located that whoever I need to meet can come there...It's also got faster free wireless internet than even my house, so that's another plus, and the food is excellent. The real coffee has got to be the best in Ghana. I think this is the best cafe in Accra, or even te best cafe in Ghana. It is also a restaurant with heavier meals like pastat dishes and burgers

  4. The place is open and called Toro Tapas Bar, next to Thai Island.
At Cafe dez Amis, make sure to verify your change.

  5. Thanks Claude. Unfortunately I am no longer in Accra so will not have the opportunity to write up about it.
Will look out for a review on Accra Expat though.
