Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai, whose depiction of the 'Great Wave' a wood block print done between 1830 and 1833 has become topical in the midst of Japan's disaster.
Even though the artwork was not meant to be a depiction of a tsunami, but one of an enormous wave at open sea, it now resonates as a case of life imitating art. It is now a more powerful image than it was before Japan's earthquake.
