Gastronomy in Ghana: The Pavillion Bar and Restaurant at Hillburi

The cappuccino mousse served at the end of our meal is what sealed it..."The best food I've ever tasted in Ghana" was my daughter's verdict. Okay, to be moderated slightly, without the tweenie hyperbole.
We were there after our visit to the Aburi Botanical Gardens, a mere ten minute drive from Hillburi - you have to pass Hillburi to get to the Gardens. The view from Hillburi is beautiful - it overlooks the vast green and lush valleys and hills. The weather was perfect; absolutely clear with a constant cool breeze blowing through every so often. It was a good day to be out. The service was good, I thought, but did taper off to the slow side towards the end. Upon speaking to the manager on the way out we learnt that they had had a bigger crowd than they'd anticipated for a public holiday so were caught slightly off-guard. Despite this though, the service was still fairly decent.
We sampled their chicken wings, served in a basket with a side pepper and tomato sauce; I went on to tuck into their chicken in peanut sauce curry and finished it all off with the cappuccino mousse whose presentation and taste was perfect. Theirs is an extensive continental menu that has everything from salads, wraps and pastas to their speciality chicken curry as well as fish and grilled prawns.
I tried their specialty cocktail "Bo Me Nkomode", which I was told translates more or less as "Speak sweet words to me". It is the well known Pimms with fruit and mint leaves. From that altitude it tasted great and was highly refreshing.
Hillburi also offers accommodation, and is an ideal getaway place if looking for a break from Accra, without having to drive too far. It has a conference room, a bar at the top level when you enter, further down is the Pavillion Bar and Outdoor Restaurant and a sizable swimming pool. There is a also a small playground with swings for young children.
