Les Rosiers, Biarritz France

As if the Basque region had not been a gourmande's delight all on its own, we found yet another gem in Biarritz where we had one of the finest meals at  Les Rosiers.
It is not on the tourist trail in the city, it was a bit of a drive from our hotel. Hidden away in the residential non-descript part of Biarritz, this was a gem of a place. Small, with an approximate seating for twenty. The service was excellent, the food was excellent, and en plus, the chef - whose feet I was ready to kiss after our meal - came out and made the tour around the restaurant meeting the patrons. It was a great evening, served up with genuine smiles and bonhomie.

We decided on the à la carte menu, which ended up being like the tasting menu with all the amuse bouches in between our courses. I lost count of exactly how many morceaux of this and that the waiter brought out. Never one to complain where food is concerned, I delighted in every little tasting of what the chef was plying us with. Unfortunately all I have are the very grainy pictures of our meal below.
That building is the venue of  Les Rosiers.
Veal sweetbreads.
Fried duck liver in a cream of mushroom sauce

Fried prawns with cauliflower cream
Strips of grilled Saint-Pierre
Risotto, that served with the lamb below

Chocolate brownie, caramel and burnt caramel cream
Strawberrries in a raspberry sauce on crumble
Les petits morceaux that came with our coffee
