Tastes from the Orient

In the interest of making the most the recommendations of the New Year, we started with the sampling of authentic cuisine . Orient Extrême in Neuilly-sur-Seine has two pros going for it - it's a walk from our apartment and to date - three visits later - the service and food have been consistently good. Make sure to call in the morning for lunch and dinner reservations because late reservations only start again from 7pm. It is and has always been busy since it opened, about 4 months ago.

The menu is a delightful mix of Japanese cuisine, or a contemporary take on it anyway. There is a grilled scallop in butter starter that is a favourite of mine, served in a shell on a bed of sea salt,
and I must
confess that each time we have been there I have always ordered the black cod. After yesterday's lunch - and another black cod meal - I have sworn to try the other delights on the menu. Every dish that passed our table looked extremely appetizing.

We started with the scallops, the chicken vegetable gyoza, and the Peruvian salad - a tasty mix of salad greens and crisp vegetables with strips of filet tossed in - this could have been a meal on its own . My son went for a platter of sashimi with maki and california rolls, and the rest of us had the black cod in the miso sauce. Yes, we can be be boringly consistent that way - but it is a truly delicious, melt-in-your-mouth dish. A great lunch, in clean minimalistic decor, with great service.

There is a service voiturier if you're driving.
