Gastronomy: Lounging at Les Sabias

Lounge music, I guess I am just a sucker for lounge music. Evokes images of chilled out cocktails on friday nights, lazy saturday afternoon barbecues and  late sunday lunches. The association is always culinary. Sundays have become either late morning brunches, or late lunches, when not actually making making lunch from the sunday market bounty (a whole other post yet to be written there). For now, we are still fairly new in our city so on a voyage of discovery on the restaurant front.
Les Sabias, in Neuilly did not disappoint. It was the lounge music playing in the background that got me.

It has an intimate feel to it, even though it has wide open windows and a terrace seating for the sun-lovers. More seating upstairs, which was virtually empty as people soaked up the sun downstairs and outside, reading their sunday papers, playing with their phones and tabs, and just rounding off their weekend.

Traditional french cuisine with a cosmopolitan touch, a varied menu of everything from pasta (not quite French traditional) to roasted lamb. Attentive and friendly service and very accommodating of the young diners. The children's menu is often a good indicator of how much attention restaurants pay to their patrons, all their patrons. On offer was steak haché with vegetables, fish and pastas, which were prepared with the same amount of exquisite care as the regular menu offerings, and a 'surprise' to boot. Thankfully no chicken nuggets and hot dogs here. My son tucked into his tagliatelle carbonara with gusto, prepared with the original egg on top; the salmon tagliatelle with the generous lashings of parmesan cheese got a thumbs up from my daughter. A steak entrecôte with bearnaise sauce for my husband and a salmon tartare starter and lamb with vegetable tagliatelle for me - sunday lunch was served and another great gastronomic find made. The kids finished it off a home-made ice-cream, we shared the house dessert - strawberry tart. Belts loosened we sat back and enjoyed the rest of the afternoon, sipping rosé, listening to lounge music and people-watching.
