The Beaujolais Nouveau... yet again

Yes, the third Thursday of the month of November and the corks were popped last night as we celebrated the Beaujolais Nouveau once again. I can hardly write great tomes about the wine, not at all, but I can go on forever about the cheese.
It seems that this week has been about food and not much else. This year I came prepared, camera in hand, appetite ready.
The spread, oh the spread...bread, charcuterie and cheese, all of course balanced on a small place with glass in hand. I have now more or less mastered that entire balancing act...but that nifty gadget that now holds plate and glass together comes in handy as well.
Sponsored by a select number of French companies operating in Ghana and hosted at the Novotel Hotel, there were no speeches and the cheeses were great...I was a bit of a glutton - but who knows when next I will see a spread of cheeses like that?
It seems that interest has waned somewhat in France though for this new harvest from the Beaujolais region...could it be that the phenomenal marketing behind the Beaujolais may be in need of a bit of rejuvenation?  It still is an applaudable marketing feat by any standards, waning interest or not. In all likelihood we should still be here next year quaffing the primeur and gorging on the cheeses...and how about the wine? Bah oui...c'est le beaujolais.
Cheers!

  1. Yes, I was there and agree with everything you have to say about the cheese... The choice was ABSOLUTELY amazing and being a glutton came with the territory!!! I am saddened to think that the interest in the "new wine" harvest may have waned especially as, (IN MY OPINION), this year's beaujolais tasted pretty good.(I clearly sampled enough glasses to have a fairly good opinion on the subject) :)
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and photographs. A good reminder of a great evening out in Accra.

  2. Thanks for dropping in...I am equally saddened - the Beaujolais has become a way of sharing a bit of the French culture with our French friends, hopefully in the coming years, recession aside - there'll be more enthusiasm and sufficiently good weather to ensure some good harvests.
