Places in Ghana: Till's Beach Resort

It was a long weekend this past weekend and we had no plans to travel beyond the immediate borders. Farmer's day  is a public holiday in Ghana falling on the first Friday of December that was first introduced in the 80s as a way to honour the farmers of the country and their contribution to the economy - a sign of the times, when sub-saharan Africa was experiencing boom times in agriculture. For now though, with the agricultural sector not performing that well, due mainly to crippling droughts and food security under threat in Ghana and much of Africa, one wonders as to how much longer this holiday will hold much significance.
That aside, Accra was relatively quiet, a refreshing change. We decided to go to Till's for the day yesterday.
The trip takes an hour from Accra to the first turn-off at Senya Bereku, without the everyday traffic; travelling in The Cape Coast direction. From the main turn-off it is a further 15 minutes to Till's. Look out for the coral-coloured church on the way; an interesting landmark. Till's is further along the coast from Kokrobite in Gomoa-Fetteh offering slightly more cleaner beaches, with White Sands Beach Club around the corner if you're looking for more exclusivity.

An entrance fee of GHc 5.00 per adult gives you access to the expansive beach, white sands and simple good food. We go for the lobster and simply grilled and served up with chips or rice it does not disappoint. There is an extensive menu, with German dishes on offer. The beach loungers are a tad old, as is much of the beach furniture, but it's worth a day out with the kids for the sand, sun and surf. The service is very slow, it helps to place your order at least an hour before your anticipated lunch time. They do not allow you to bring in food and drinks, but there are a few exceptions, as long as it's done in good faith and you still order from their restaurant menu.
