The presence of South African companies in Ghana is growing by the day and the Ghana-South Africa Business Chamber is trying by all means to promote the potential bilateral business opportunities through a host of forums and social events.
Two years ago they hosted a wine-tasting evening at a re-launch of the Chamber after many years of a lull in activity. The current people at the helm of the Chamber appear proactive and eager to maintain the pace of activity through a host of social events for Ghanaian and South African businesses.
A comment made to me though was in as much as promoting bilateral relations was at the core of the Chamber's work, there was a need to establish more balance within that framework; to see more Ghanaian businesses doing business in South Africa.
A couple of weeks ago was the Ghana-South Africa Business Chamber Music and Dance Evening. The event was hosted at the South African High Commisssioner's residence. The speeches were brief and even sponsor companies kept their presentations short and to the point, with the proviso that the networking extend beyond the evening. There was a varied representation of Ghanaian and South African companies and I also met some new faces in the SA Community. It was a reminder again as to the number of South Africans that do business in Ghana and affirmation that South African companies are truly extending their reach beyond their immediate borders.
